Beskap

Beskap is traditional men's clothing from Java which is usually used in official events or traditional ceremonies. Beskap has a unique collarless cut with asymmetrical buttons, giving a formal and dignified impression. Beskap is usually combined with a jarik, a long piece of cloth wrapped around the legs. A set of beskap clothing with cuts on the back and fingers is called Jawi Jangkep.

Beskap is traditional Javanese clothing with various kinds, such as simple surjan beskap, traditional beskap for ceremonies, and long-sleeved beskap for formal events. Such as weddings, traditional ceremonies, celebrations, family events and other official events. Some beskap are also combined with batik cloth. The main function of beskap is as a symbol of social status, cultural identity and politeness at traditional events, weddings or official meetings. Beskap is usually black, but nowadays beskap has various colors which are sometimes combined with the color of a woman's kebaya, as a partner.

Accessories that are usually worn with beskap at formal events include: Blangkon, keris, shawl, belt, shoes.

Women's Beskap?

The janggan kebaya is a traditional Javanese kebaya with a loose cut, especially at the puffy sleeves. Usually combined with batik or songket cloth, this kebaya is often worn at traditional events or weddings. What is special is that the janggan kebaya is also often worn by courtiers at official royal events or traditional ceremonies, symbolizing status and honor in Javanese culture.
